چکیده

This paper presents the results of a detailed theoretical investigation of the impact of non-LTE effects and of granulation inhomogeneities on the derived iron and oxygen abundances in the metal-poor halo subgiant HD140283. Our analysis is based on both the ‘classical’ one-dimensional (1D) stellar atmosphere models and on the new generation of three-dimensional (3D) hydrodynamical models. The non-LTE calculations presented here have been carried out without inelastic collisions with neutral hydrogen atoms. We find that if non-LTE effects are taken into account when synthetizing the Fe i spectrum in both type of models, then the derived iron abundance turns out to be very similar in both cases. The emergent spectral line profiles in both models are very much weaker in non-LTE than in LTE because the UV overionization mechanism produces a very strong Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cient́ıficas; Spain

Abundances and Kinematics of Field Halo and Disk Stars I: Observational Data and Abundance Analysis

We describe observations and abundance analysis of a high-resolution, high-S/N survey of 168 stars, most of which are metal-poor dwarfs. We follow a self-consistent LTE analysis technique to determine the stellar parameters and abundances, and estimate the effects of random and systematic uncertainties on the resulting abundances. Element-to-iron ratios are derived for key alpha, odd, Fe-peak, ...

Oxygen abundances in a sample of ultra-metal-poor subdwarfs have been derived from measurements of the oxygen triplet at 7771–5 Å and OH lines in the near UV performed in high-resolution and high signal-to-noise spectra obtained with WHT/UES, KeckI/HIRES, and VLT/UVES. Our Fe abundances were derived in LTE and then corrected for NLTE effects following Thévenin & Idiart (1999). The new oxygen ab...

Three-Dimensional Hydrodynamical Simulations of Surface Convection in Red Giant Stars Impact on spectral line formation and abundance analysis

Aims. We investigate the impact of realistic three-dimensional (3D) hydrodynamical model atmospheres of red giant stars at different metallicities on the formation of spectral lines of a number of ions and molecules. Methods. We carry out realistic, ab initio, 3D, hydrodynamical simulations of surface convection at the surface of red giant stars with varying effective temperatures and metallici...

Non-LTE Analysis for the Sodium Abundances of Metal-Poor Stars in the Galactic Disk and Halo

We performed an extensive non-LTE analysis of the neutral sodium lines of Na i 5683/5688, 5890/5896, 6154/6161, and 8183/8195 for disk/halo stars of F– K type covering a wide metallicity range (−4 ∼< [Fe/H] ∼< 0.4), based on our own data as well as those collected from the literature. For comparatively metal-rich disk stars (−1 ∼< [Fe/H] ∼< 0) where the weaker 6154/6161 lines are best abundance...

OXYGEN LINE FORMATION IN LATE-F THROUGH EARLY-K DISK/HALO STARS: INFRARED O i TRIPLET AND [O i] LINES

In order to investigate the formation of O i 7771–5 and [O i] 6300/6363 lines, extensive non-LTE calculations for neutral atomic oxygen were carried out for wide ranges of model atmosphere parameters, which are applicable to early-K through late-F halo/disk stars of various evolutionary stages. A useful formula with tabulated numerical coefficients is presented, applicable to evaluating NLTE co...
